Cleo & Marc.

Working in a shop that sells hand and body care items over the past two years has - in addition to the 1,000,000 hand creams that have taken over my house - left me with a pretty good understanding of what the skin actually needs, and what is going to be a real winner in the beauty game. Cleo & Marc has just launched, and has already released a selection of coffee scrub bars that are set to dominate.

The scrub bars come in four fragrances: Coffee with Vanilla, Peppermint, or Coconut as well as a scrub bar designed specifically for men, ‘The Marc’. I got the coffee and vanilla fragrance, and it is amazing, it is such an authentic, true coffee fragrance – they’re not kidding when they say you’re going to want to try and eat it. It would make the perfect morning pick me up when you just need that little extra boost of energy to start your day. I also seriously love that it’s in bar form, the mess a standard coffee scrub creates is the last thing you want to be dealing with during your pamper session.

Handmade in Australia with coffee grounds, oats, shea butter, Himalayan pink salt, coconut and almond oils, adzuki beans and coconut sugar, Cleo & Marc have jam packed these bars with some beautiful, natural ingredients, and left out all the nasty parabens, phthalates or SLS. My skin was left so smooth, soft and conditioned after using this scrub.

Coffee Scrubs have MANY benefits, including:
-       Exfoliating and anti-inflammatory properties
-       Firmer and Smoother Skin
-       Improved Circulation

Treating yourself never made so much sense. Come see what all the fuss is about, #comescrub with Cleo & Marc.

ColourPop

I've been wanting to try ColourPop products for quite some time now. I first saw them on vlogger KathleenLight's channel and was curious to suss out the colours and quality of the products! Once KathleenLights mentioned ColourPop, I started researching them via other YouTubers and on the ColourPop website. I was so excited to simply touch the Super Shock Eyeshadows because I had heard that they have a really unique consistency - and it's so true! They're not powdery at all, I believe they are water-based and to the touch, they feel like a mousse. The two shades 'Telepathy' and 'Liberty' are part of the Ultra-Metallic range, which are so pigmented. The other three colours are part of the Metallic range which are softer colours with gorgeous small silver flecks, and I am yet to try out their Matte and Pearlised finish eyeshadows (which I will definitely be going back to, as these ones are amazing!) and cannot wait to give them a go!

I decided to try one LippieStick as well which I also love - I purchased the shade 'Cookie' which is a perfect nude for me! I also love the packaging - it's a long, thing, pen-like shape which is perfect to pop in your wallet or pencil-case when on-the-go!

I was so pleased with the quality of these products and for just $5 USD each (equivalent to just under $7 AUD) I thought they were so worth the amount (+ shipping) as some brands such as MAC sell their single eyeshadows for $30 AUD each!

Where to Bendi-GO!

I recently went on a short weekend trip to Bendigo. When I planned this, I didn't know what was there, hadn't looked into it too much, I just wanted to have a weekend away. After visiting Bendigo for a few days, I fell in love!

Here is a small guide of what to do, and what to see if you also find yourself spending the weekend down in Bendigo:

1. Go to the Bendigo Art Gallery.

2. The Marilyn Monroe exhibition starts this month at the Benidigo Art Gallery, so once visiting that, pop around the corner to see the Marilyn Monroe sculpture!

3. If you're into super foods and healthy eating, grab breakfast or lunch at Blue Jam Cafè!

4. If you need to grab dinner, visit Mr Beebe's! (we went there for dinner two out of three nights that we were there because we loved it so much! Here's the menu: http://mrbeebes.com.au/asset/MB_Menu_Web_Apr.pdf)

5. Wander around the small town centre and visit the independent stores such as the Bendigo Hat Store!

6. Keep an eye out for the night markets on the weekends!

7. Stay at the Schaller Studio! Just a ten minute walk from the town centre, designed by Australian artist Mark Schaller.

8. If you wanna explore surrounding areas and don't mind driving an hour, pop by Daylesford and visit the main town centre, or even the Chocolate Mill or Hepburn Springs Salt Baths and Spa!

9. Have a relax! It's such a lovely and quiet little town that you will adore and it's perfect for a short little getaway! :)

VAMFF 2016.

Launching tomorrow, the 20th year of  the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival will run for a week long hosting Australia’s top designers, both up and coming and the cherished favourites. For the first time, the festival hub is now at the Royal Exhibition Building and the Melbourne Museum, where you can catch all the action on the runways as well as unwind and relax at the Festival Plaza. Here are some handy tips to navigate and make the most of the biggest week in Melbourne Fashion.

Experience:  The Runway Shows. Whether it is one of the seven Premium Runways Shows, the National Graduate Showcase, the Jean Paul for Target Runway or the GQ Australian Menswear Runway, there is a runway to suit all your fashion needs and desires. But be quick, many of the runways have sold out, but luckily VAMFF has released a limited number of additional seats for the sold out shows.

Watch: If runways aren’t your thing, head to ACMI for the Fashion on Film Series. Here you can watch the latest fashion documentaries, hot off the runway from across the globe about Jeremy Scott, Givenchy and the late Alexander McQueen, just to name a few.

Eat: Now that the hub for VAMFF has changed, you could not be more spoilt for choice when it comes to dining before or after the show. Think Gertrude St for Trippy Tacos, Smith Street and Brunswick Street for their array of wonderful bars and eateries and how could you forget Lygon Street for the ultimate after show coffee and gelati.

Wear:  Now this probably is the time to don your most stylish outfit, as many people pull out all stops to look their best around Fashion Week. Don’t worry too much the ‘latest’ fashion trends because this is your opportunity to let loose and show Melbourne your creative flair.

Transport: The Premium Runways could not be more easier to get to get to this year. Simply hop on the train to Parliament and enjoy a leisurely stroll through Carlton Gardens. However, if the heat  will prove too much, you can hop on the 96 or 86 trams to allow you to roll up in style.

Head over to the VAMFF website or their Instagram and Twitter for all the deets and up to the minute goss. And most importantly, if you look good, you feel great, so have fun with the festival and be sure to always be camera ready.

The Minimalist Life.

The process of becoming your most ideal self comes through self-exploration and experience, not through slowly creating an image of yourself for others. For most the part, I have always been pretty aware of the idea that 'things' don't give your life value. However, only recently I have come to realise just how important it is to be mindful of accumulation of possessions and why less is more. I'm not here to convince you to throw away half of your possessions, but what I hope to bring to your attention is that fact that getting rid of 'things' can be liberating and have a positive effect on your sense of self.

In January I read Marie Kondo's The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, and although I don't think I got as much out of the book as it seems other people have, I did take one valuable lesson from Kondo's perspective on how to de-clutter your mind and organise your life: take the time to reflect on the relationship between you and your possessions. By sorting through your possessions and coming to terms with how much you own and how little you actually use, you begin to realise just how irrelevant 'things' are in bringing happiness to your life. Joy is a simple concept - it comes more from moments that you have associated with 'things', not necessarily the 'thing' itself. So, despite letting go of possessions, you will always have the memories and recollections of moments that sparked joy. And almost always these special moments involve people, not things.

One of my favourite books by Mitch Albom, Tuesdays with Morrie, words this concept so perfectly: "But I do know we’re deficient in some way. We are too involved in materialistic things, and they don’t satisfy us. The loving relationships we have, the universe around us, we take these things for granted.” 'Things' are so easy to replace and let go of because they don't necessarily give you perspective on who you are. However, the connection that you have with people, and the energy that is invested in building up a new relationship or sustaining a relationship is vital and influential on your development as a person. And so, too, it becomes clear that until you spend time with people to see what they do and what sparks their passions and interests, you don't really understand what lies beneath all of the external factors you associate with them. Because, ultimately, investing parts of your identity   into external things instead of internal aspects such as attitudes and values can be detrimental to your self-perception and others' perception of you.

Energy and time is so incredibly valuable, and what you decide to use your energy and time on is very important. I say this because it is so easy to dispose of your time on things like your phone or computer watching irrelevant (but entertaining) YouTube videos or flicking through photos of other people's holidays. That's the thing - you're spending more time taking in other people's moments rather than creating your own. I'll admit, I love social media every now and then, but I am so much happier catching up with friends for a coffee or going for a walk rather than sitting in front of a screen for hours on end. When you detach yourself from the 'things' that are taking up a lot of time, you'll begin to realise just how much time you have to work on yourself and your relationships.

It seems that the more you give away - most prominently of yourself - the more that comes back to you. People are truly valuable. Every person you associate with is unique in their own way, unlike anyone else you will come across in your life. To be giving of yourself, your time and your energy can be confronting, but it is when you invest in bettering yourself through associating with others that you begin to realise your capabilities, what you stand for, and how you can improve yourself and the lives of others. Coming to terms with the fact that you are constantly experiencing things to shape who you are and who you can be gives purpose to your life.

And so I leave you to reconsider what you truly value in your life, and how the greatest parts of who you are are all found far beyond what can be seen with the human eye - the greatest part of you comes from your actions, your words, and your spirit. Recognise the value that you have to offer others and what others have to offer you, and thrive off knowing that, as cliché as it sounds, the best things in life really are free.

Three words: made in Melbourne. There are many things that make Kuwaii very special, with their local manufacturing topping my list. Each season Kuwaii’s designs give a nod to the trends of the season, yet feature strong, classic cuts that enable the clothes to remain practical enough to wear for years following their purchase. Trying on the garments instore you can really feel the quality and care that has gone into the creation of every piece.

Tahina.

I was told about this little gem that is Tahina, on one of my very first days at my internship. Everyone was raving about how great the food was, and how they all couldn't wait until lunch time. In typical Sarah Pizzonia style, I brought my lunch in my little Tupperware container and had to wait until the following week to try it. And boy was I missing out.

Located on High St Northcote with its neon blue sign, Tahina has so much to offer with its vegetarian Israeli street food menu. Falafels in pita pockets, shakshuka, grilled eggplants, tahini, quinoa salads and lots of hummus are what you have to look forward to. Not to mention, they have an awesome and delicious selection of super smoothies, if you aren't quite up for a meal.

Every bite (or slurp) is so wholesome, you can taste the freshness of the ingredients and the passion that goes into making them. Every bite is an explosion on Middle Eastern flavours that leave you wanting more, but feeling completely nourished and full.

So get yourself down to 223 High Street Northcote and nourish your body and soul with their delicious creations.

Mister Hoffman.

With a new cafe seemingly popping up in the local suburbs every week, differentiation is the key to success, and Mister Hoffman delivers. Stepping into this local gem on Hoffmans Road you get the immediate sense you've just walked into Barbie's dream kitchen, complete with a retro coffee maker, pastel feature walls, and the odd kitsch accessory including an adorable Galah lamp (my love of bird ceramics is ever growing). I'm a sucker for cute interiors - especially if there are bold splashes of pink included - so it was incredibly easy for me to feel right at home at Mister Hoffman.

The little, extra details are all thought out, from the aesthetically pleasing sprig of mint in the water jug, to the gorgeous chai serving set (highly reccommend the chai!) Mister Hoffman's unique style sets it apart. The food was also very fresh, and said to be locally sourced. I played it safe with my meal, grabbing sourdough toast with avocado, goat's feta, and bacon, but there are also some more daring options on the menu like pine needle herrings for the ambitious bruncher to late luncher. Whatever you choose you are guaranteed a delightful time at Mister Hoffman.

A Year of Discovery.

Last year was a great year; it was a year of learning and a year of discovery about the world and myself. In 2014 I started my first year of university, studying a Bachelor of Fine Art degree at Monash University. I loved it and worked really hard, forwardly getting the results I needed to be able to further my studies abroad! When I got the acceptance letter to study at Monash University’s Campus in Prato, Italy, I was excited to say the least. I had been to Italy before, but mostly with family so this time around was my first independent and solo trip abroad. I was excited as I knew I could invent a new perspective on the country for myself. So the second year of my studies commenced and the first semester went by in a breeze, and then with the second semester came Italy!

When I landed in Florence it definitely felt very real. I didn’t have a family member coming to pick me up from the airport so I had to manage a way to get a taxi, and my Italian is very poor. I remember getting in the taxi and saying ‘Prato’ to the driver. He looked at me strangely, and said “Prato?”, it really hit me then that I don’t even know where or what Prato is or what it was like, and the driver's expression towards this place made me even more confused, while also very intrigued as to what Prato would be like as a city. And as expected, my time living as a 'local' in Prato enabled me to truly gain an appreciation and understanding of the city.

Prato is a provincial city, in Tuscany and is the second largest city in that region after Florence. Known for Italy’s biggest Chinese community and also the largest industrial city for textiles. Prato has many different sides to it, my favorite side was from my apartment window, I could see the Tuscan hills that stretch for miles, and it was so beautiful waking up every morning and watching the sunrise over them. Although I was mainly studying in Prato, it was definitely not the only city the study trip was bound to, in fact the exchange trip gave me, and all the people studying with me the opportunity to travel all around Italy. From medieval parades in Prato to the Venice Biennale, to the hustle and bustle of Rome, not one day of the trip was wasted for me. I would take the train to Florence most weekends with friends, as it was so close to Prato, and visit museums and flea markets or just search around for good places to savor some nice food and wine. The trip gave me the opportunity to meet new people from all around the country and also get to know the people in my course better.

I travelled to cities like Naples, Cinque Terre, Bologna, Rome, Siena, Venice, and Milan to name a few. What I adored about Italy was how every city is different, in its own way, and how the people and their way of living change throughout each city. If there is one thing I can guarantee that I visited in every city it was their churches. Each city has a marvelous array of Duomos with amazing and intricate frescos, sculptures and paintings, and let's not forget the astonishing and memorable architecture that quintessentially reflects different time periods of Italy’s growth as a nation. Immersing myself in the country's sensuality of art, architecture, food culture, lifestyle and history, the cultural sensations of Italy were the most inspiring to my studies there.

I feel so privileged and lucky to have experienced this great country, and travelled through it with like-minded people. The ability to further my tertiary education outside Australia, experiencing an array of old to new and contemporary art and learning how to understand and interpret artwork through the centuries, and there link with lifestyle and culture of Italy and Europe was truly invaluable. Overall I would have to say that the two months I spent in Italy were incredibly inspiring for myself. Everyday held something new and unexpected and I learnt to enjoy every second of every moment I was there. I do miss Italy, but the trip has given me the light to understand that there is really nothing stopping me from going back and re-living another amazing experience there again.
